I had a ton of brushes and patterns from actions I have installed and even tho all the actions are there, all of my brushes and patterns have disappeared. This happened with the 22.2.0 release. 😞

Hi there,
Sorry that brushes and patterns in Photoshop 22.2 are missing.
Would you mind sharing the operating system version you're working with?
To start with troubleshooting, please checkout the steps mentioned in this article https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/presets-actions-plugins.html and let us know if that helps.
Thanks,
Akash

I go to the Applications folder open the previous version of photoshop folder/presets/brushes/copy .abt files then go to you newer version folder of photoshop folder/presets/brushes and paste. Then reload in newer version of photoshop.

That did not work. I copied the folders but the other brushes are still missing.

Did you copy the folder or the contents? It should only be the contents copied and pasted in the newer photoshop brushes folder? Did you see them in the newer photoshop when you went to reload them? I have done this for every version upgrade.

I tried copying the folders from the old version (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2020) of PS and the brushes and patterns are still gone. 😞 I am on Windows 10.

I am on Windows10. I tried copying from the PS2020 folders and that did not replace the brushes and patterns. I have online backups but they on;y have a three week retention.

Can you see your legacy brushes when you search to the path below?
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2021\Presets\Brushes

Ok, good. Open Photoshop, click on your brush tool, go to top bar choose brush size select down arrow to show dropdown. Choose setting gear icon, top right corner of the drop down window. All the way at the bottom of the next drop down window choose Legacy Brushes. Then click yes to restore your Legacy Brushes. That should load all your brushes from previous Photoshop.

Nope. Did not change anything. 😞 Argh!

Should I load the ones from the previous version? I had already copied that file over and I thought that was the right thing to do??

Oh man, did you happen to view the video I attach in the response above from YouTube for loading Legacy Brushes?
Can you see your brushes in the older version of photoshop?
Did you happen to search your computer for .abr files?

I found this video on YouTube. Which explains it very well.

I watched it but that does not help. Originally, I went into the old PS2020 folder and I manually copied over the old brushes and patterns files into the PS2021 version. Bottom line, I still do not have any of the multitude of brushes that I originally installed with actions that I downloaded and/or purchased over the years. Thus, if I try to run an action, it chokes on missing brushes and/or pattern files. This sucks because I have bgeen reinstalling all the files anytime I want to run an action. 😞

I am sorry for your frustration. If you can see your brushes or patterns in the folder? Try double clicking on each one to see if they load. I am just trying to see if a step maybe missing?

What I did was to go into the previous version of PS (2020) and copy the brushes and patterns files from there over to the PS2021 folders.,,and that did not bring them back?

There have been quite a few posts about this recently. Never save your custom presets in the application folders. Always save them far away from the PS folder. Mine are all saved in Dropbox. Photoshop will overwrite everything when it's upgraded.

I have online backups of everything...what folder would I look for on my backups.

Search for the extension, .abr and .pat. That's what I do when I'm not sure where everything is located.

Great. Wish I'd known about this. Thanks for nothing Adobe.
