Photoshop crashes while using brushes

Photoshop intermittently crashes while using brushes. The spinning wheel! This happens constantly and I'm forced to restart my computer. Using Mac Mojove 10.14.6.  Anyone else experiencing this problem? This situation is untenable and makes the newer versions of Photoshop next to usuable.

Can you not force-quit Photoshop? 

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Graphic Processor Settings) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
