running iOS 12 on iPhone X and iPad Pro.   The PS express extension works on the iPhone but on iPad it opens a splash page that says continue editing by launching the app from the home screen.  Obviously the point of a photos extension is ability to launch right out of Photos.   not sure why it works on iPhone but not iPad…

Customer support wrote back to me and provided an explanation. They wrote:

There are certain memory limitations due to which extension support is restricted.  As a workaround you can continue editing by launching Photoshop Express app. You may still get the same benefits as you get in Photos app, like

  • Apply edits and overwrite the image instead of saving a new copy. This setting can be done in App Settings -> Preferences- > Disable Save as copy
  • Navigate the images using Full screen navigation(like in photos app) and choose the image to edit within the edit workflow.

Also, We have added significant number of features like collage, spot heal, text , sticker, new set of corrections, and it’s not feasible to add these features in the Photos app extension due to memory constraints. You can try them in the app.
