Photoshop freezes when trying to duplicate layer

I have Photoshop 2021 22.2.0 on a Windows 10 machine.  Every time I try to duplicate a layer, Photoshop freezes and the only way to get out of it is to use ctrl/alt/delete.  How can I fix this so that I can get back to editing.

Is your graphic card driver up to date?

does that happen in this specific file or in every document?

have you tried resetting photoshop preferences settings ?

Thank you Mohammad for the advice. Resetting my preferences worked. Learn
something new everyday. Can't any better than that.
