Photoshop opening files in thumbnail size only

Lately I can only view images as thumbnails and when I change the setting to print size, fit page, zoom on the image it will enlarge the size but the copy and artwork is pixelated.

Any solutions for this photoshop beginner and how to change my settings?

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible? 

What is the file format? 

Does the files’ size (in MB, not mm) seem plausible in relation to the original pixel dimensions and layer structure?

In Photoshop what size is the image's canvas how may pixels does your image have. With what you posted will can not see the Zoom Scale Photoshop is displaying your image. We have on Idea what size image you are editing in Photoshop.  You have hidden that information  from us.
