Why is it that when there is an update installed the tools don't work like they did in the last version.

I'm specifically speaking about the quick mask function that sits at the bottom of the tool box window.

Gawd -- it so frustrating. And holds up my work flow because I now have to figure out how to get that to

work like it did before. I hate updates!! Goes for InDesign too. Any suggestions out there?

Arrrghh.

Nothing has changed with QuickMask in any recent versions - it's still at the bottom and still acts the same as previous.

What specifically are you noticing?

I use the quick selection tool A LOT; in the old version I could then click the mask box and fine tune the selection.

NOW -- the box quick selection tool - is o.k. ( I prefer the using the brush selection -- seems to work better) but when I click the mask box -- nothing seems to happen. I'm not a PS professional -- all self taught and of course it's mostly operator error but it's a pain in the butt to have to learn a new trick to master a tool that was I was working pretty well just yesterday. I do tons of photo work for our online stores & wholesale business so I'd like to not have to learn all over again.

Thanks for your quick response.

And I do understand I don't have to update.

After you make your initial quick selection try typing Q and see if it takes you to Quick Mask.

That functionality has not changed. After you make a selection, you should be able to take it into Quick Mask to edit.

Check the document title at the top does it indicate quick mask?

For the record, you do not have to run updates. They are not manditory or forced.
