Placing Lightroom images into Photoshop (into Stock templates)

Please could someone explain how I can Place (Embedded or Linked, as appropriate) images from Lightroom into Photoshop? I can 'Edit in...' no problem, either directly or as a smart object layer. But I want to use images from Lightroom with the Adobe Stock collage template, and I don't know how to get the image imported from Lightroom into the template. Assuming 'Replace contents...' is the correct option to fill the template via the smart object layer in the artboard, this only gives me the option to Place from a file stored on my computer, rather than import from Lightroom or use the image already opened in Photoshop (from Lightroom).
