If you go to Preferences/Scratch Disks - do you have another drive allocated as your scratch disk or are you working off your main hard drive?

Im assuming you are using your main HD as your scratch disk which is never a good idea. Scratch disks will build up while you work in PS and start to cause major lags if it is the same HD as the application itself.

Can you send your specs? What specific version of Photoshop, OS, HD Space, Scratch disk space, etc.

Any details can help us help you.
