PS 2021 pasting into layer mask cuts off objects

Just noticed in PS 2021 that when I paste layers into a group with a layer mask, I can't move the objects around inside the mask anymore without them being cut off. Before, I could move the objects freely within the layer mask without them being cutoff from the layer mask itself. What happened?
