RAW files not recognized

Hi, I have a problem with my RAW files on Photoshop 2021. I use to have the same problem, whit my old camera NIKON D3200 and my old photoshop CC. Photoshop does not recognize the files. So, now i have a pretty new camera NIKON D500 and a new version of Photoshop. But still, when i shoot in RAW and want to upload to Photoshop, photoshop says it doesn't recognize the file. What am i doing wrong. I would really like to be able to use RAW files in Photoshop. Thank you in advance and merry X-mas, kind regards, Soraya van den Berg

What operating system are you using?

If in photoshop you go to Help>About Plugins (windows) or Photoshop>About Plugins (mac)

and click on Camera Raw what version does it say?

Also using Nikon Transfer to download the nefs from your camera to computer is

known to sometimes corrupt the nefs in such a way that adobe camera raw won't open them.
