Red screen of death in photoshop

Today my photoshop is showing the entire window as red, when I go to interact with canvas it flashes briefly to white then back to full read. quick mask is not on, i uninstalled and reinstalled.

 

what gives?

If you disable GPU acceleration (Ctrl/Cmd + K on your keyboard > Performance > Graphics Processor Settings), does it continue to happen? I'm guessing GPU driver issues. Try updating or a reinstall of the GPU drivers (I don't even know if that's possible on a Mac) if that's the case.

Disabling the GPU worked! (hopefully doesn't affect performance too much)

For future reference/debugging I'd like to add

I am using a late 2014 retina imac 5k 4gb vram 32gb ram

I know that, beginning with 22.x onward, requirements for Photoshop have increased but my guess is that Apple simply may not have updated the GPU driver for that particular model. See more here:
