reduced MB after putting text on my photo

Dear,

A Jpg foto of 5.0 MB is reduced to 3.95 MB after putting a text on it in Photoshop.

how come? this surely means los of quality...

Resaving any jpg means damaging the image. 

jpg employs lossy compression and the effect cumulates with each re-save … 

 

Edit: If I remember correctly jpg would theoretically allow for non-lossy compression methods, but practically when we speak about jpg in Photoshop we are speaking about jfif with lossy compression.
