Removing white background on ipad

Hi there. I'm new to photoshop and so far finding it really frustrating. All I'm trying to do it remove the white background to create a transparent layer. The help videos I've found tell me to use the magic eraser tool - but this isn't on the iPad. I haven't found any other advice. Can anyone help please.

But as an aside: I would not recommend using the Magic Eraser Tool at all.
