Did the most recent update change so that you can no longer save a layered file directly to a .jpg file? I now have to flatten first.
You don't have to flatten first and you can still save a jpeg from a PSD. Due to changes in macOS, Adobe had to make changes while keeping PS platform consistent.
Choose File > Save a Copy (not Save As) to be able to save a JPEG.
“Only supported files that maintain your work will be supported in the Save As command. If the file type you’d like to save isn’t an option, go to Save a Copy and create another version in your desired file type.”

On Windows you can do it like we did it years ago with an interactive action where you set the location you want to save jpeg file in the interactive Save As step. Before the step the action flatten and after the save as the action steps back an recovers the layers. There is no good reason to Add " copy" to the file name that is a Mac thing....

You should be abel to save a jpeg did you try menu File>Save a Copy... You may not be able to save an orignals jpeg "save as" no longer can do that on Mac and PC machines.
