Saving "replace file" just dowsn't work, both in photoshop and illustrator

Just a basic saving file process like software always did in the la s 20 years.

Save with the same name > yes, replace file > it's done!

Now both Illustrator & Photoshop create new "copy files" instead of replacing, also if I said "replace".

Don't undestand why.

My system: Illustrator 25.1 and Photoshop 22.1 on Mac mid 2018 i9 32gb ram on macOs Catalina 10.15.7
