Info:

Win 10 pro 64bit (1809)

English windows, danish keyboard.

photoshop 21.2.3 and down to  20.0.10

Problem:

Suddenly no shortcut keys work anymore.

This is from a clean boot. no other apps run.

No updates were installed by windows or any other change.

I already tried:

--Resat prefs. Reset keys. Reset all.

--Re-Installing photoshop

--Change keyboard layout/language

--Change version ( down to 20.0.10 )

-- all I could find on forum

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop/ctrl-quot-key-quot-shortcuts-not-working-in-photoshop/td-p/...

I'm so desperate I installed gimp to use instead

as photoshop without shortcut keys is worse than

gimp's funky interface.

So what can I do?

Thank you for any help/info you can provide.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the shortcut keys not working in Photoshop. As you've already tried multiple troubleshooting steps, could you check if there are any pending operating system updates? Try installing the updates and let us know how it goes.

Also, you may try creating a new user account on Windows 10 and test Photoshop on that account to see if the shortcuts work on the new account. Please check the steps here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/4026923/windows-10-create-a-local-user-or-administrator-acc...

Regards,
Sahil

Hi

Thank you for your reply.

My Window is fully patched. (its pr auto of the domain)

Logging in with another domain user account on my pc,

does fix the shortcut key issue in photoshop.

But that is not really a fix as I cant be another domain user on a daily basis.

So basically, I must re-install windows for the same effect

which is a huge amount of work

due I'm a developer and have multiple compiler suits

installed.

What is most frustrating about it

is that seems to be nothing changed or installed between

photoshop working and then not.

Do you think an older than 20.0.10 might work?

If yes, how do I download it? the new

cloud app does not allow that anymore.

Also, can you explain to me how ONLY shortcut keys can break when the rest of photoshop

works just fine?  That is very surprising, also considering none of the other 10 full apps i use have any issues with shortcuts.

Im not sure what to try now

but I think the issue is related to me

using a danish keyboard but English windows.

So I will try fiddle with those settings and see if I can get lucky.

Thank you Sahil

Hello, I see you did reset the prefs, did you try to create a new kbsc .KYS file, at the bottom of the Edit menu?

The user account tells that it is not a system problem...

Hi

Thank you for the suggestion.

Yes, I tried to make a new KYS file

but I cannot press any keys to assign to the menu/actions etc so

it seems futile. But i did "Delete shortcut" and then used "Use default" and then saved as new KYS file

and used that instead but still the keys do not work.

I did try all versions available in the new cloud app. Do note is not that many as you can't get much older versions anymore.  So I tried from 21.2.3 and down to 20.0.10

which is the oldest I could get. I wonder how I could get an older one to try with.

Best Regards

J

Hi, I believe you can't get under 20.0.10 as it fixes a security problem, according to the CC app notes.

Any third party software, not launched, but able to steal shortcuts (screen recording apps?)

Hi

Thank you for your input.

Ok, so that is why I can't seem to find older CC versions.

Good to know.

I don't think I have any such app installed. I used

MSConfig to start up with minimal things loaded

and still, no shortcut keys work in PS.

Also if it was an app stealing keys, it would be

unlikely that it could steal all keys photoshop uses.

Also do note that you cannot assign a (new) shortcut inside Photoshop

while this bug is in effect.

That suggests it's not related to external apps but its photoshop itself that has issues with some combination of language settings and keyboards.

But since it does work if I log in as another domain user, even it has 100% the same settings as my profile (domain controlled) , I'm a bit lost what could be wrong in my profile.

I plan to try to do a profile migration when time and see if cures PS.

Its just tons of work and might ruin other apps but cross fingers for me 🙂
