I truly don't know how to use photoshop.  I purchased a smart object file from etsy.  No one else seems to have this problem.

I have to uninstall and reinstall photoshop to get the file to work.  It works for a while and then it does not.  I have no idea how I am breaking the file.  By break, when I open it and click on the layer that says click here, it will NOT open up the second tab.  When it does this I have to uninstall and reinstall

Any ideas?

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?

Could you inadvertently have rasterized the Smart Object?

It sound like you purchased a template PSD files and you do not know how to use photoshop and the template together. There is no standard Template design.  Without seeing the Template we can not given you much help. That Template is not your to share. With the Photoshop knowledge you do have if you can describe the structure of the template's Layer stack we may be able to give you some advice..
