Snapping with the transform tool when snap off

Community Beginner ,
Jun 28, 2018 Jun 28, 2018

For the love of something, can you make the Free Transform tool's handles NOT snap to the document edges when Snapping is off? It's only been broken for 10 years. It's so annoying. If I wanted to snap to the edges, I'd turn snap on.

Thank you.

What version of photoshop and operating system are you using?

Seems to have been working for me, but it could depend on the kind of layer your transforming.

When you have transform invoked, if you press the Ctrl key (mac and windows) while going the transform, does that keep the snapping off?

It's when I have Snapping off, but use Ctrl and drag the corner to get a freeform transform, it snaps to the edge. However, if I have Snapping ON, and use ctrl to freeform transform it, the snapping doesn't happen. Mental... This has happened for as long as I can remember using PS, which is years.

Your using Windows or Mac?

I believe that is the intended behavior in photoshop.

The Ctrl Key disables Snap when Snap is checked in the View menu and the Ctrl key enables Snap when

Snap is unchecked in the View menu.

You can ask over here at Photoshop.com and see what adobe says about it.

The problem is ctrl is enabling/disabling two behaviours at the same time. It allows you to fully distort your transform (as opposed to not pressing ctrl, which only allows you to scale/rotate/move the transform) but also starts snapping when I explicitly have snapping off. That is annoying.

I just upgraded to Photoshop CC 2019 and started having the same problem. I discovered that holding the shift command combination removed the snapping.

For me neither the Shift key, nor anything else helped until I unchecked "snap vector tools and transforms to pixel grid", under Preferences; Tools.

So crazy that YOU HAVE ENABLE SNAP to NOT USE snap when using free transform. Come on Adobe Photoshop devs!!!! 😞 It solved the problem - but fix this issues once and for all - in a logical way. Please!

Same to me. Came here because in Free trasform no snaping when I do it with Diagonal scaling (not legacy)
BUT if you do vertical scaling with verical arrow (that how it works now) not comfortable at all even with guides. SO anoying. Thinking of buying another software, simply strange.
