Spot Healing Brush

I am trying to import a photo - I just started with PS - and when I try to work on it, it keeps saying "Reselect the spot healing brush tool to continue" and it's in a loop and I cannot get out of it - can someone show me how to fix this, please?

Try resetting the preferences and see if that fixes the problem.
