Is there a way I can keep my background layer exactly as it is when I open it? When I duplicate the background layer and then crop it, PS applies the crop to my locked background layer too. Is there a way to evercome this, please.

Hi

When you Crop, it applies to the entire document. If you want to simulate crop on one layer, make a selection, invert the selection, then add a layer mask for non-destructive editing or delete the pixels to permanently remove them.

Thank you very much for your email. I have used PS for some time and never
noticed that cropping affected the entire document - when I did finally see
it, I thought my app had been corrupted. Thanks again for your help, it is
much appreciated. Kind regards John
