I've spent an hour trying to figure out how to fix this but I still don't know what is going on.
Whenever I try to resize the text box when you use the type tool, the guides aren't showing up and I can't see what I'm highlighting.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

This is a bug, which has been reported. Also happens with CMYK, but not RGB.
