Type Tool Will Not Work

Hi! We are using Photoshop 2020 Version 21.2.4 and the type tool will not work. It will click but students are unable to type. 

Here are the steps we have tried:

1. Updating to latest version

2. Resetting all tools

3. Changing preferences to not auto fill in filler text

4. Uninstalling from Adobe CC and reinstalling. 

This isn't happening for all of my students but it is happening to several. Additionally, the home house icon on the left side, sometimes blinks like it is glitching. 

Any help? Please!

Some thoughts:

• In case it's a font issue, what typeface are they using?
• What OS and exact version?
• Is a type manager installed? 
• Can they type in other applications (to rule out a keyboard issue)?
