I have a three page PS file. In order to save printing cost I am trying to compress it in 1st Page (i.e in one Page).

I converted it into one page, However I am encountered with one Error 'No Page Numbering Available'

I am using GS View to see Post Script file. The fisrt page looks fine as I needed. However when I click for the next page, it comes empty (In fact it should not come) and when I click back, it gives error 'No page Numbering available'

Kinldy Guide what text I have to insert/Delete and Where ?

Here's my original PS File

Here's my Compressed Ps File

Have you even opened the PostScript Language Reference Manual? Comments are a normal part of PostScript. Anything starting % is a comment (but avoid %% and %! for they have special meanings). Be sure not to accidentally break the DSC comments (don't add in the middle of a stream of special purpose comments).

Does the application generate the PS file like that or it was a raw data formatted with VDP software ?

How this PS file was generated ?

The edited version of your PS file distilled into a single page PDF without any page errors, using Adobe Acrobat Distiller 9.

gs does not have a problem either. Some viewers like evince use DSC's to determine the

pages and since they are comments to gs and distiller there is no error. My guess is using

the DSC's posted above in the OP's file will fix the error with GS view

I installed Acrobat Pro XI,Trial Version but could not find the Distiller feature in that.

Acrobat PRO  must have distiller

You need to check the box of distiller when you are doing the installation.

you will find separate item under Adobe Flora

under this directory

C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat

run the file acrodist.exe    this will open Distilr

I hope this will work

Even when I open Post script file, it does not gave that Eroor that Aerial Font is missing.

Here is the Error or Information Given

Arial-Bold not found, using Courier.

Arial not found, using Courier.

ArialBlack not found, using Courier.

Arial-Italic not found, using Courier.

Here is my PS file attached

The PostScript generation is faulty, it should be embedding these fonts in the PostScript file. You cannot rely on Distiller finding your system fonts -- and how could a printer do that, if you send it the PostScript file?

You probably should use Helvetica, a standard font build into almost every PostScript implementation, and special cased in PDF too.

Going back to the original problem. You started with a DSC compliant file. This is shown by %!PS-Adobe on the first line.

DSC compliant says that the pages are properly marked (%%Page) and can be rendered independently. This must be correct, because some programs will use %%Page and other comments to run the PS out of order.

If you edit it, to keep it valid you MUST either

* preserve DSC compliance (requires a full understanding of page independence and DSC concepts)

or

* remove the marker for DSC compliance (processing should still usually work, but will often be much slower, as apps can no longer render a page at a time).

To remove DSC compliance while keeping the file as PostScript add an EXTRA line in front containing

%!

and nothing else at all.

The font will be thousands of lines of PostScript code, created by analysis of the original font.  This is a job for the PostScript generator, so check the options in the software that you use to make the file.

These two lines in your code

/Fn1{d I/Arial F}b/F1{/I 8.0 Fn1}b

/Fn2{d I/Arial-Bold F}b/F2{/I 12.0 Fn2}b

Are responsible for the error message -

You can just change the font name with fonts existed under distiller control.

Change/add font to distiller

In Distiller => Setting => font location =>  add the path of your Type 1 font  - not true type

you must have your font on the PC as postscript type 1 - conversion is easy by any software like font lab or font type , fontographer  etc !

Arial , ArialBold  are True Type or open type font which can not be embedded in in postscript file!

you need to have a version compatibl of these font PS type 1 font and add the location in Distiller. like Helvitica for example

Also another quick solution

configure Distiller to ignore font error and continue    Distiller =>Setting=> Edit Adobe PDF Setting=>font> When Embeding fails (Ignor and Continue)

Sir, as i told you earlier I am not a post Script programmer. I am a Database Programmer. Whatever, little bit PS I have learnt, is throgh the help of you all people, throgh this forum only.

I have not created the PS files throgh any software, the files have created in some UNIX system. What i am trying to do is to maniputate the code(Text) inside the PS file using a Database software, foxpro.

My each ps file has 3 pages, on page No 1 there is enogh space that it could accomodate other two pages, so I am trying to make a tool that could compress a 3 page file to 1 page.

You can get a more explict picture, what I am trying to do from observing these two files.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/0eyn620ypncq3q0/Files.rar

Now, If you have observed the above files you could see that using text manipulation I have compressed the PS files, but Since I dont have post script printer, I dont know whether my compressed files will be printed as my original file

or not. I am worried that my compressed file may not generate error while Mass printing job is being executed on a PS printer.

Kinldy have a look at bolth the above files and comment

Regards

Harsh

Well, you may not think you are a PostScript programmer, but you are programming PostScript. You are performing complex tasks on source code, and this is just as risky and complicated as editing a piece of a program in any language. We can help you learn your task, but please don't be under any illusion that you can do this without learning about the language you are working with. Or rather two languages, as DSC is an equally important (but rather simpler language) that coexists with the PostScript.

I hope you will not be offended if I say: the task you have to do only seems simple because you don't understand it.

Distiller is a fine substitute for the PostScript printer you don't have, but it is important to get the DSC right as well.

I understand,  kinldy guide that how should I go about it. How to ensure that my Edited PS files are correct and will not generate error while printing.

In GS view I have opened thousand of file and all opened fine without any errors. I distilled thousands of files and didn't got any message except that of Aerial Font I told earlier.

What else I could test to ensure that my Ps are not fixed when they in Mass Job printing activity.

How do i ensure that all my PS file confirms to DSC ?

use Distiller hotfolder to test conversion of thousands of PS.

Distiller is quite faster than GV and it has no error -  just take care of the issues I explained in my previous message

I distilled your code here and it generated coirrect PDF with one page correct althougn distiller gave these message

Arial not found, using Courier.

Arial-Bold not found, using Courier.

Arial-Italic not found, using Courier.

because these fonts are True type and can not be embedded. - just do the comments I told you .

Also remove the line <Pre>  in the first line  and </Pre>  at the end   because these are XML tags and generate error in PS.

Cheers

Adam

Sir, a small issue. I want to keep one comment inside the Code of PS file, like 'FIle is Compressed'. Just inside the Program code of PS file, dont want to show it as Image on Screen. Means I want that the line should be there inside code but PS should ignore it while drawing the Image. so that, if the line 'FIle is Compressed' is present, my foxpro program will not reporcess that file

Is it possible to insert that dummy line at the TOP or Bottom. Kinldy Guide

Have you even opened the PostScript Language Reference Manual? Comments are a normal part of PostScript. Anything starting % is a comment (but avoid %% and %! for they have special meanings). Be sure not to accidentally break the DSC comments (don't add in the middle of a stream of special purpose comments).
