I have deactivated all my Type 1 Postscript fonts. When I open an old Photoshop file that contains a Type 1 font I get this error message. .
Some text layers might need to be updated before they can be used for vector based output. Do you want to update these layers now?
I click Yes and I get this message:
Selected font failed during last operation. If problem persists, please disable the font. OK.
I click OK and the box just pops up again, and again.
This also appears:
I click OK and nothing happens and Photoshop freezes.
This is a nightmare as I have many old files in Creative Suite programs.

This question is about Photoshop. It is not about PostScript (I know type 1 fonts are also called PostScript, but PostScript is not involved). Please post in the Photoshop forum. When you post, be sure to include your system version and exact Photoshop version (not "latest"). Good luck.

Type 1 is no longer supported in the latest version.
Type 1 fonts are an extremely old format and are no longer available.
All should be replaced.
PostScript Type 1 font support has come to the end of support in the Photoshop 23.0 release

Since you are using Photoshop 2021, which can still use them, I suggest you temporarily reactivate your Type 1 fonts for the time being, open the problematic files, replace the fonts with OpenType/whatever, then save the files.
I also suggest keeping PS 2021 around (i.e. do not uninstall) when you upgrade to 2022, so you have it to fall back on to do aid in the replacing.
