2020 is crashing every time I pull an mp4 from a GoPro onto the timeline

Hello, all.

I have Premiere Elements 2020, and I'm working on a project where content came from two different cameras, a Sony and a GoPro.   All native files were uploaded to sharepoint, where I downloaded them all as mp4s and then added the content to the projects.   I can add the files from the Sony cam onto the timeline no problem, but the files from the GoPro (Hero5 Black, if it matters) crash the program every time I drag the files onto the timeline.   When I drag the files onto the timeline, sometimes before it crashes/closes it doubles up the image in the video (like a side by side within the viewer) and the image fragments seperates all the colors in the lower third of the screen (see attached screengrabs).  When I try to play, it crashes and closes.  I'm working with all the video files on an external hard drive, if it  matters.  It has me at a full stop.

I'm on a newer Lenovo Yoga C940, Windows 10, 1 TB of SSD, 16g RAM, etc, all updated. All the video files play normally in Windows Movies and TV and QuickTime.

Thanks for any help.

Open one of your GoPro videos in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy that text and paste it to this forum. Once we know the specs of your GoPro video we'll better be able to advise you.

One note: You say you downloaded your video from Sharepoint as MP4s. Did Sharepoint convert the videos in any way? Why are you not working with the video directly from your device?

Here we go...interestingly, the file crashes MediaInfo, too, if I open MediaInfo first, and then open the file once MediaInfo has loaded.   If I right click on the file and open with MediaInfo, I get the info below.   Thanks for the help.

Might want to rename your files: they have rediculous long names.

Start with one and import.

yeah, the names are crazy long.  I wondered about file paths being to long, but that's not it either.  The other file names are just as long, and they work, but I copied and renamed a couple of them to see, and their renamed copies do the same thing...crash both APE2020 and mediainfo.

Figured it out.   The videographer created the mp4s from the .lrv files in the GoPro.   Once I used a converter to get away from the lowres files and got above 720, they started playing on the timeline just fine.   Surprised that can crash these editors, but still, good to know.

"LRV files are low-resolution video files used by GoPros as video previews. ... [they] are used by the GoPro mobile apps. "

They aren't video files.  The are special purpose preview files.   Premiere Elements is not aimed to be a universal video file editor.  It is a specifically targeted at editing files from common consumer grade cameras.
