I downloaded the trial to test before I upgraded. I loaded a video I put together with Premiere Elements 14, but 2018 will not show my video? Any suggestions? It works fine in Version 14.

Are you trying to open a project file or an exported video?
A project file from Pre El 14 may not open in Pre El 2018.

Trying to open a project file. I didn't think that would be an issue but I'll try testing by creating a new video.

so your saying past projects are no longer maintainable? That doesn't seem right.

"Backward compatible" is something we are used to in some software, like word processing. In Premiere Elements is does not work so well. Due to the ever changing pieces and parts, newer versions will be missing things from older versions. So, depending on what pieces and parts were used in an old video, the project may not load in a new version. The final output from a previous version will likely be in a relatively standard format and it is likely that it can be used as a source file in newer versions.
The only way to maintain the ability to re-work old projects is to save the version of Premiere Elements you used for that project on your computer. You can have and continue to use as many versions you have paid for. They can all coexist on your computer.
A note of caution.... If you load an "old" project in a "new" version, it may corrupt the project file. Use copies!
