I have created a title of some text I want to overlay on the video and I have chosen to have it SlideInByCharacter and it works fine but a couple of seconds after it slides in, it disappears. I would like it to stay on the screen for longer - how do I increase the amount of time it stays after it finishes its animation? I have tried extending it but it just lengthens the time to slide in. I have tried splitting the title after it is finished but I just end up with two titles that slide in. This seems like it should be the easiest thing in the world and I am just missing something. I mean what good is a title if it's not there long enough to read it?
Thanks,
Rob.

The easiest way is to place the title on the timeline twice -- one right after the other. Apply your text effect to the first one but leave the copy uneffected.

Thanks Steve, that gets the job done albeit in a very cumbersome and laborious way Also, you used the word "copy" - as I'm sure you know, it actually can't be a copy as it will apply the animation to both even after the fact. I had to make a second independent title and go through all the work to get it the same font, font-size, color, and alignment to get it to work. Disappointing to say the least.

FYI You can copy the text separate and not the entire tile. IE: open a new title and remove the "TEXT HERE" then select the only text box in the first title and paste into the second blank title.

Thanks P1965, great tip but again how can this not be as basic as a valve on a tire? At the very least I should be able to dive into the animation and reposition or add a keyframe then stretch the clip.

Not with preset title animations.
