Can anyone explain why, in Adobe Premiere Elements 2022, there's a one-second black screen when I overlay one video on another? This issue only occurs when both videos play simultaneously.
Well, I finally got it fixed. I spoke with Adobe and they screen sharred for a while. We finally figured it out. I was uploading the vidoes via One Drive and that was causing the issues. I put them on my c drive and uploaded and there was no issue. I guess when working with Adobe Premier Elements, you should keep the files on the c drive. I had no idea.!? Thank you for helping as I learned alot. I love Handbrake as I learned how to put a border around my videos. Again, THANKS!!

What do you mean by "overlay one video on another"? Do you mean two tracks of video, one above another?
What is the source of this video and what format and resolution is it?

Thank you for the reply. I am not an expert and appreciate it. Yes, I have one vidoe on a track and then another vidoe on the track above said track. I reduce the size of one video on the screen so it plays over the later vidoo. I used my cell phone for both vidoes and they play fine until I overlay them. They are MP4 files. Also, I am not using any fly in features like dip to black or anything.

Please use the free MediaInfo and post a screenshot of the properties of your media in tree view:

Many users are having issues with VFR. If the file is variable frame rate, use Handbrake to convert to constant frame rate before importing into Premiere Pro:

Here is a tutorial:

Shutter Encoder may also be used to convert to Constant Frame Rate:

HI,
Unfortunately, It did not work. I uploaded the video to youtube to show you want it does. The link is below. The video works great if I dont have the smaller video added. When I do, it makes everything go dark except the new video that plays fine. I even started all over from scratch and uploaded the videos I clean from Handbrake. Thanks again for trying to help. I do appreciate it.

Can you post a screenshot of your timeline expanded at the point where the black frame occurs?

Sure, the one second black out happens right here - Thank you!

And there aren't any video tracks higher than your screenshot shows?

No that is all that is on the track at that moment.

Bob may be right. It is not uncommon for clips to get lost when they are moved around. The only logical explanation is that a very small piece of a clip was accidentally bumped to a track above what you have visible. Please scroll up and double check.

Hi, I appreciate your help.. I really do. But, It stil doesnt work. There is nothing on that line. I have even tried uninstalling the program, tried different videos, used handbrake to clean them, and I still get a black out screen for a second or two when I have two videos playing. Is it not normal to have two vidoes playing? I am at a complete loss.

Just to be clear:
Have you tried to play each clip separately with noting above or below it, and it doesn't have the black frame?
Check the alignment of Title 34 and Title 10 on the timeline.
I suspect that may be where the issue is.

I would never have guessed. Intuitively we all know that video editing is very demanding and cloud servers are as slow as our internet connections. And, you proved it! The current configuration considered best for video editing is to have a fast solid state drive that has both the program, source files, output and plenty of space for temporary intermediate files.

In my setup (PE 2021, WIN10) I have the program installed on the C: drive & media source files, output etc. on D:.
Both are SSDs. Works fine (famous last words...)
