Can't Add GoPro6 MP4s to Premiere Elements 15

New Here ,
Aug 11, 2018 Aug 11, 2018

Hopefully an easy answer, but couldn't find it by searching the forum or online.  I get the error message, "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed" when trying to add the new GoPro 6 videos to Premiere.  I'm trying to add the videos by going through the Add Media, Files and Folders method with Premiere since the vids are now downloaded. I read a few posts about a "Handbrake" program, but don't currently have that installed.  The MP4 videos run fine on all Windows software, but I wasn't able to open it in Quicktime.  It opens fine in the GoPro Quik video editing software, but the reason I own Premiere is to edit videos.  I'm running windows 10 with a GEForce GTX 1060 video card if that matters and all software is up to date.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

MP4s shouldn't be a problem for Premiere Elements. Unless they use the H.265 rather than H.264 codec.

Open one of your problem videos in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy and paste the report it generates to this forum.

Once we know what the file is made of we'll better be able to advise you.

That's H.265 as Steve suspected. Try Handbrake.

Here is Steve's tutorial:
