Delete project using copy images

Participant ,

Please assist to demount my confusion!

My projects are compiled and edited, always using copy images, screen clips etc so as to protect original files. I create a folder which also appears in Organiser.

Is it OK to delete this folder and from HD without it deleting any originals filed in Pictures and linked in Organiser. It seems that if an edited image (based on copy not original) is deleted then the primary link in Organiser to the original Pictures file image is also removed?

There is no reason to create duplicates (or keep duplicates) of any media you use in a Premiere Elements movie project. Premiere Elements is non-destructive. That means that your original files are not altered in any way, no matter what effects or editing your do to your movie.

You can always make a backup of your original footage to another hard drive. Just in case your hard drive you are working with dies.

Good point Ann. Presently I backup my HD externally monthly so maybe it will also be wise to just backup footage externally after any major editing.

Not after: before editing.

Many times I read users lost their footage after an e.g. crash and did not make a backup.

Especially when editing on a machine with only one drive.

Recently someone did a clean windows install and forgot all of his work was on the C drive as well............

You can always re-create your project, but most of the time you cannot reshoot your footage.

I always make a backup of my footage and project on a different drive.

Sudden thought, Steve.

Using a special Folder as my project image, screen clip etc source is much easier... for me at least. By preselecting material that I may use makes it much faster to find during the edit. Like many of us, I have many '000's of images captured over the last 20 years ... all of which are held on my HD and linked into Organiser. Are there any' issues arising' from this practice?

Not if it works for you.

Although if you use the Organizer and tag the media or place them in Albums there, you can easily access them all at once without moving your media around or duplicating files. That's after all what the Organizer is primarily for.
