I am trying to duplicate an already cut clip that was uploaded. when I copy and paste it changes the original clip also. I know you can duplicate the whole clip in the project assets but i just need the section i have cut out. Do i have to duplicat the cut both at the same time? That seems like more work. There has to be a simplier way. Thanks in advance

Dont copy/paste but just drag the clip again from the Project Assets into the timeline. Now you have two independently copies of the same clip.

Some lingo: uploading means transferring data from one computer to another computer.

Bringing files into Elements is called importing or ingesting.

Ann is right when she says that dragging from Project Assets will create two independent copies of the clip.

I'm confused about what you want when you write, "i just need the section i have cut out".

If you cut a clip into two parts, either part can be selected and moved on the timeline for use later in the timeline.  Select it and drag it.

If you want a copy of the edited clip, select it, right click and pick Copy.  Then move the CTI somewhere and press CTRL+V.   That will past and exact copy of the edited clip in the timeline.
