I have been a user for Premiere elements for 10 years - but I have tried all the suggestions re getting rid of green lines but they don't work. HAd this happen on a previous laptop but evetually got it to work but not this time. Thinking of switrching to Camtasia which I know is more expensive but doesn't seem to have the smae issue. Any other software anyone can recommend?

If you are looking for a screencapture with editing possibility then Camtasia is a good choice.
I would also have a look at Magix and Cyberlink.

It depends on what device your video is coming from and what type of movie you plan to output. Cyberlink PowerDirector, as Ann says, is an excellent alternative. Camtasia is primarily designed for editing screen captures. There is no one-size-fits-all best solution.

I recently taught a video editing class in my retirement comunity. Several student brought work they had done in ClipChamp. It is Microsoft's newest video editing system. The unique part is that it works on lesser computer systems because a lot of the processing is done on their servers. There is a 'free' version and the option to pay for more capabilty. Like all systems, it has its own set of limitations.
I still prefer Premiere Elements becuase of its ease of use, streamlined work flow and good quality output.

Thanks for recommending this program, Bill! I wasn't aware Microsoft had upscaled its Video Editor. Clipchamp looks pretty nice for basic editing!

I'm not sure I'm recommending it. I don't know it well enough. Instead, say that I'm fascinated. ClipChamp was an independent company making progress on server based editing. Microsoft liked it well enough that they bought them. With Windows 11, Microsoft pushes ClipChamp as an improvement over Windows Video Editor.
I'm learning Premiere Pro and have tried ClipChamp. I've even tried Davinci Resolve. Premiere Elements remains my favorite because it is easier, less complicated and straight forward.
