How can I make an audio recording longer than about 20 seconds?

I have Premiere Elements 2023.  I try to record a narration track  to  be added later to an already edited sequence of shots of about 30 minutes. However for some reason the length of the audio recording I can make is limited to about 20 seconds which is very impracticle.  I'm sure there is a simple solution but I cannot find it on the net. Does anyone know the answer?

Thanks for your help!

Are you talking about a narration recording? Are you recording to your C drive on a Windows computer or to another drive?

Hello Steve, thanks for your reaction. In the meantime I have received several tips and it seems that the problem is solved (create an empty file of the desired length and 'fill' the sound track with the audio. Until now this works. However a new problem has occured: while working on a project, parts of the tracks have disappeared. After correcting the sequences and restarting the project the same problem on the same place occured. I am sure that there is enough memory in the pc (specially configured for the latest version of Flight simulator, with lots of memory). The project so far is about 20 minutes length which until now was not too long. What could be the cause of the problem?

Thanks for your help!

Are you on a Windows computer or a Mac? Are you saving your project to your C drive or to another drive on your computer?

Sorry for the late reply; I've been away for several days. After switching off the pc and restarting it several days later the problem seemed to be over and I could continue the project. I will however keep an eye on sudden unexpected events. The system I use runs under W11 Pro configured for Flight Simmulator FS2020 in 'ultra'.
