How to measure audio levels

How do I check that the audio levels don't exceed 0db?

On other applications I have used there is an audio level meter.

Like Ann, I always do a sound check using the Audio Meters. But the program's timeline can also be switched to Audio View, which opens a permanent VU meter on your timeline.
