Motion Titles - how to overlay titles on video clips? - Premiere Elements 15

Hi.

Is it possible to overlay a Motion Title over a video clip so that the two elements play simultaneously?

Every time I drop a Motion Title on to my video timeline, PE15 splits the video asset and inserts the Motion Title in between the two sections it has now created.

I then have a bit of video, which stops abruptly to switch to the Motion Title I've created, before it cuts back to the video and continues playback.

Obviously, I want the Motion Title to play over the top of the video, simultaneously. I can get this working with the Classic Titles, i.e. the simple text choices. The Motion Titles are much nicer, though, so I'd prefer to use them.

I've tried dropping the Motion Title on to the same video track as the video clip; dropping the Motion Title on to a separate video track; and dropping the Motion Title into the video clip in the monitor preview window. I get the same result any way I try it - PE15 splits my video and inserts the Motion Title in between the two freshly chopped video clips.

Is it just not possible to overlay a Motion Title and have it play simultaneously over the top of a video clip? Does a Motion Title have to play separately from the video clip, i.e. before or after it?

This doesn't seem like it would be the only option, but I can't get it to work any other way.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I agree with HEM. You should be able to place the Motion Title on Video 2, above your video, and it should not break the video on Video 1.

To see the video through the Motion Title, go to Motion Title Adjustments, select the Background and set the background to transparent.

Are you working in Expert Mode?

Your video clips will be in the Video 1 row & you add text to Video 2 (or even Video 3 etc. if you staple texts).

Then you could apply Fade IN/out etc to the text as shown above.

I use PE 14.1 & previously used PE 13.1 so I suppose PE 15 will be no different.

OMG, that was so easy! Thanks, Steve and HEM. All I had to do was change the opacity of the Background!

I dragged the slider all the way to the left and bam! - the grey background disappeared, the Motion Title animated bit stayed put on top and the video in the background played underneath.

That is exactly what I was trying to achieve. I can't believe I didn't see that for myself. Oh well!

Thanks again.
