Since replacing PE21 with PE22 all the png graphics I previously downloaded now show a background when imported on to the time-line instead of being transparent as they should be. How can I address this? Do I need to add a new codec for this version of PE? Is there something that I'm overlooking?
Amateur in distress here,
Please help!

That's not my experience. Transparent PNGs are still transparent in Premiere Elements 2022.
What operating system are you using? Are these new projects you created in version 2022 or are you opening projects that were created in older versions of the program?

Hi Steve, I'm using Windows 10 as I did with PE21. The projects are newly created in 22. The PNG graphics that I had saved on my pc worked perfectly on 21 but now they have chequered backgrounds.

John

Again, are you loading these PNGS into a new project created in version 2022 or are you opening a 2021 project in version 2022?

There is no reason I can think of that this is happening.
Can you share one of your PNG files to this forum so I can try it in my program?
Meantime, just to confirm, you've got video on Video 1 and your transparent PNG on Video 2 directly above it, right?

I copied one of your files to my computer and opened it in Photoshop. I can't see what has been done, but somehow it appears that it has been processed it in a way where the background is no longer transparent. Oddly, it didn't respond to any adjustment tools either. Attached is one of my files with a simple arrow that does have a transparent background. I hope it helps you figure it out!

Must have resaved them somewhere along the line. They were set to Indexed but need to be RGB. Hence the checkered background.
I fixed the images for you. They are now transparant.

Great fix, Ann!
