Premiere Elements 2023 Unresponsive

Community Beginner ,

I have recently been running into issues where Premiere Elements is unresponsive for basically any action. I have been trying the create slideshows through the organizer but doing simple actions such as editing an existing slideshow (just adding text captions) or even just loading an existing project, the program will freeze and soon after clicking on the app will show “Adobe Elements 2023 Organizer is not responding” warning message. At this point I’m trying to just export my projects so I can edit in another program but even trying that, the program freezes just 10-30% into the export process. Does anyone have some advice on settings or any fixes?

I have tried reinstalling the program and have restarted the pc. I am running Windows 11, have an AMD Ryzen 5 processor and have an AMD Radeon RX 5600 GPU.

Thanks, this issue has been resolved. I was able to find the log files (located here: %appdata%\Adobe\Elements Organizer\21.0\logs) and saw that I was getting an HEVC decode error. I resolved the issue by converting all my mp4 videos from HEVC (H.265) to AVC (H.264). Unfortunately before finding the log files I deleted my catalog trying to debug the issue, so I had to redo all of my slideshows, but I did end up finding how to modify the existing slideshow themes.

Without more information, my first guess is that you are running short of disc space.   The temporary and cache files need a lot of free space.

Another idea (actually, 2 ideas)

1 - is your Windows 11 up to date?

2 - is your Radeon driver up to date?

Do not count on Windows to be fully up to date when it comes to device drivers
Go to the vendor site to be sure you have an updated driver for your graphic adapter

AMD/ATI Driver https://www.amd.com/en/support

Thanks, unfortunately I’m experiencing the same issue. Windows 11 is up to date (OS Build 22621.1635) and my graphics card is up to date (version 23.4.3), though the app does not appear to use my graphics card (don’t see much activity in the task manager). I will have to check if my other drivers are up to date. As far as storage I have 200 GB free and 32 GB of memory. I also upped the setting under Preferences -> Media -> Cache Size to 10 GB. What I’m seeing in the task manager is while it is “preparing slideshow” my CPU will be at 100% for a while, then suddenly drop to normal running speed 14%, where the program hangs and becomes unresponsive.

How many files, what format are they in and what are the dimensions?  Have you tried making your slide show in Premiere Elements instead of the Organizer?

Thank you! Using Shutter Encoder to convert all my H.265 to H264 seems to have worked for me.
