SHIMMER AND JERKING MOTION PLAYING CLIPS

I use Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and had some work done on my PC recently. I know that this involved some work on the graphics card (s) because the technician mentioned this at the time. I have two graphics adapters:

AMD Radeon HD 6570

Intel (R) HD Graphics Family

I had saved a project prior to this work but this is now pretty unviewable. All of the clips jerk and shudder and even when I select a single clip to open and view in the Clip Monitor the same distortion occurs. The clips are fine (they're stored on the PC and not some other disk) and can be viewed in generic software such as Windows Media Player etc.

I've tried everything but cannot resolve.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Should I just go back to the technician?

I can't imagine what work you've had on your computer that would disrupt Premiere Elements. Unless maybe you had an antivirus installed that's disrupting playback or you updated the operating system to something that's not fully compatible with version 10 or Premiere Elements.

I don't need to tell you you're using a version of Premiere Elements that's more than a decade old. Version 10 is not nearly as versatile with video as more modern versions. Have you tried outputtting a sample of your project and seeing how this MP4 output plays on VLC Media Player?

Meantime, assuming you're using Windows 10 or 11, ensure that you've got all of the current updates, then go to the AMD site and ensure you have the latest drivers for your card.. The stuttering could just be your computer loading or struggling to find the latest updates.

But to be any more specific we'd need to know your operating system, processor and RAM and the specs of the video you're editing. You may also want to download the free trial of version 2023 and see if it makes playback of this video any better. (Do NOT try to open your version 10 project in version 2023 or you'll surely corrupt it. But you can create a new test project and see how the playback goes.)

Hello,

I wish to thank you for your very timely response.

I mentioned the work that I had done on my PC and which involved the installation of a new Hard Disk Drive. The technician pointed out that I had two graphics cards and that he had activated the second card which had remained inactive since I purchased the PC. I was blissfully unaware of this.

I had saved a project prior to this work but did not have a chance to access the project until recently and that's when I first experience the shimmer and jerky motion.

I did as you suggested and downloaded updated drivers for both cards. I'm delighted to report that everything is fine now.

Many thanks.

Kind regards,

DANIEL SMITH
