How to fix Premiere Elements 15 and 9 shutsdown when clicking on Effects?

I have been using Premiere Elements 15 with no problem. However, I attempted to add EFFECTS and upon clicking on the "Fx" button, the app shuts down.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled PE 15 with identical results. There is no error message, just a blue circle - waiting, then shuts down.

Is there a way to perform a clean install?

Thanks.

You can uninstall, removing preferences, and then reinstall, if that's what you're asking.

Otherwise, much depends on the operating system you're using, the processor you have, how much RAM you have, how much free space is left on your hard drive and what model of camcorder your video is coming from.

Steve, thank you very much for your quick reply. I performed your suggestion, however, PE still shuts down when clicking on Effects in Expert Mode. I can add Effects in Quick mode without crashing.

My system is a DELL XPS 8300 i7-2600 CPU @3.40 Ghz. 16 GB RAM 16 bit. Windows version 1803

SSD with 511 GB free out of 934 GB.

Windows 10 Home Edition. Has the latest update (to date) 6/23/2018.

Regarding my video, PE crashes as soon as the Fx (Effects button is pressed). No need to have any photos or videos imported. Any ideas? Thanks for your reply.

Sorry, elementsauto. Based on the information you've provided, I don't know why this would happen.

You don't say which model of camcorder your video is coming from, but that too could be a factor.

I assume you've gone to the nVidia, AMD or Intel web site and ensured you have the latest drivers for your video card (as opposed to trusting Windows to provide it).

Clearly there's something bugging up the operation unrelated to Premiere Elements. (Otherwise all of us with similar systems would be experiencing it.)

Try downloading the free trial of Premiere Elements 2018 and create a test project and see if you get the same results. The experiment might reveal something.

Further my recent post, I was re-reading your original question. You say you have been using version 15 without problems but suddenly it's crashing when you click FX. But then you say you installed version 15 with the same results?

There's also a 9 in the headline question for your topic.

Can you clarify your original question?

And please let us know what model of camcorder your video is coming from.

Once again thanks for your replies. I updated the Nvidea GEForceGT530 driver from 369.09 to 391.35.

Also installed latest version of QuickTime and set it to open ALL .mov files

However, the issue persists. Yes, I have been using PE since version 3. I have versions 9, 12 and 15 in my computer, along with their Photoshop Elements versions.

Regarding the camcorder, I do NOT have to load/import any pictures nor movie files to recreate the problem.

All I have to do is launch PE15, or 12 or 9. Go to Expert Mode, Click on "Effects" (Fx) and PE displays the blue circle (waiting) for about 2 seconds, then it quits, no error messages. There is a common issue that I can not figure out.

I have run 2 antivirus programs and no problems are found. Used CCleaner to clear junk as well as to clean the Registry.

Is there a way I can see what/why PE is waiting for before it unloads?

Hi again, found this in the error log, for both PE12 as well as PE 15. I do not know if anyone can tell me why or what is crashing it.

Perhaps a S/W engineer can see the reason. Thanks.

Sorry, I have no idea how to read an error log.

But, based on what you've told me, I can't imagine what could possibly be causing this.

You don't say if you've downloaded the free trial of version 2018 to see if it nets the same results, but I'd be curious to know, if you still want to pursue this.

I have downloaded PE 2018 tonight. It DOES NOT crash like the other versions.

Can someone tell me the purpose of the HSL.dll driver, which according to the above error log seems to be causing the problem/error on my earlier versions PE 112 and PE 15?

The HSL driver is for adjusting the hue, saturation and lightness settings of your video's color.

I'm glad to hear version 2018 works for you. Though there isn't that much difference in the basic structure of version 15 and version 2018, so I've no idea why you're having problems with one and not the other.

I really don't know what more to recommend. sorry.

I will no longer be forced to purchase new products when they are not needed.

I was forced to buy Elements 15 after having a different problem with Elements 12. I was happy with version 12.

Now they both work.

To summarize, to perform a CLEAN uninstall, delete, EVERY bit of Adobe files and folders left behind, before re-installing.

Steve, thank you very much for your help. Much appreciated.
