I am about to install an m.2 ssd which will become my new c: drive. I plan to leave my photos on the old SATA c: drive but will rename it as the d: drive. When I reinstall Photoshop 15 on my new c: drive am I going to run into any problem reconnecting to my catalog and photos on the (renamed) d: drive?

Quite likely you will -- since the "map" to your photos will no longer go to a folder on your C drive.
