Hey I'm about to buy adobe premier elements 2018 and the system requirements say that I need an intel core i7? Is that really necessary? I have an i5, is that good enough? Thanks in advance.

Depends a lot on what media you want to edit

I agree with Bill. I used an i5 for a long time and it worked just fine for HD video.
Check your process with these benchmark scores. A score of 5,000 or better will give you excellent high def performance. If you're editing 4K, you may need to go up to at least an 8500.

Mine has a benchmark score of 4723. Do you think that is good enough to edit good HD videos?

Just double checked, might be 4200-4723!

It's worth a try. Why not test drive the free trial?

I used a laptop with i5 and slow HDD to edit 1080p60 ("HD") video with a couple versions of Premiere Elements. It worked, but was sometimes a little slow and laggy in the previews and output rendering. The final output was fine and played well. My projects never exceeded 10 minutes in length.
I agree with Steve, you should download a trial and try it with what your have.

I don't remember, but I suspect it was pretty low!

So like mine, in the 4000 range?

No, you do not need an Intel i7.
"2GHz or faster processor with SSE2 support; dual-core processor required for HDV or AVCHD editing ; Intel Core i7 required for XAVC-S"
XAVC is a recording format that was introduced by Sony on October 30, 2012. XAVC is a format that will be licensed to companies that want to make XAVC products.
You can use any processor.
