No m2t codec, no audio for m2ts and wrong capture date

Hi,

I have downloaded a trial version og premiere elements 15, but there are many different issues so I think maybe premiere elements will not work for me.

The issues I have are:

Unable to import m2t (HDV files). Codec not supported.

m2ts files are imported, but there is no audio for any of these files.

The dates are a mess in the organizer. Supposed to be sorted with newest on top, but it is not the capture date that s used in PE 15.

Is there any way of resolving these problems?

Or is there another software/program that will work better for me?

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Julie:-)

Are you saying that your video was captured from an HDV (tape-based high-def) camcorder over an IEEE-1394 (FireWire) connection?

What software did you use to capture this footage to your computer? What model of camcorder is this video coming from?

Have you tried installing Quicktime components to your computer? (If you are concerned about security with the Quicktime Player, can disable it by changing the QuicktimePlayer.exe file's name to QuicktimePlayer.old. You'll still get the necessary components.)

QuickTime 7.6 for Windows

Or are you using an operating system other  than Windows?

Hi Steve!

It appears that the problem I have with viewing these m2t files is in the organizer. Premiere elements itself will play the files. It would be helpful to get the organizer to work since I have a lot of clips. The files are from a Sony HDV camcorder (HDR-HC7) and were captured using Sony vegas software and firewire connection.

I am on an iMac. Would it help to install Quicktime? I tried to google, but not sure which is the latest version for Mac...

I also have some problems with the dates in the organizer. Not sure which date is used, but it is not the date when the clip was taken.

Julie,

I am going to be of no use whatsoever.  My experience with video starts after the "capture" process was how it worked.  Everything I've done in the last half dozen years was simple file transfers.  The cameras I've used record on an SD card and copy to the computer with a card reader.  I don't know how Vegas would capture your files or how you would move them to a MAC.   Sorry.

Good luck with your project.

(On edit, I see that Steve posted while I was typing!   Rather than delete this, I will leave it posted.  I didn't mean to step on his toes.)

Julie,

I can assure you that Premiere Elements handles MTS, MT2S or AVCHD files.  It has been so since version 11.  I've been doing so with a variety of Panasonic and Sony cameras for the source.

I am on a PC and do not use the Organizer (that comes with Premiere Elements) because I organize using other methods.

First, there are a half dozen under $100 non-linear editing programs available.  All have good reputations.  Based on my reading of various video editing forums each has occasional trouble.  My choice continues to be Premiere Elements because, do to its wide use, has lots of learning resources.  If you want to abandon Premiere Elements, I would be happy to list the choices.

To help with your challenges, there a few questions.

-What is your computer and what are the details.  MTS (AVCHD) files are of the more complex and need a relatively strong computer.

-How did you install the trial?

-What is the source (camera) of your video clips.

-What is your procedure for getting the clips from camera to computer.

-What does your timeline look like when you put the first clip on it?  Can you post a screen shot?

-Would you post one of the clips on a file sharing site so that it can be tested on my or another's computer?

Note that I have a travel day ahead.  I'm on a cross country road trip and won't see your answers until this evening.  Others might help in the meantime.

Good luck!  Premiere Elements is excellent video editing software and should work well for you.  I hope you can get it to function.

Thank you for your reply, Bill:-)

I´m on an iMac (5K, 27 inch, Late 2015) with macOS Sierra, 8 GB memory, AMD Radeon R9 M390 2048 MB

I installed PE 15 by downloading a trial version from the adobe website

The mt2 files that are not recognized/unsupported by PE 15 organizer are from a Sony HDV camcorder (HDR-HC7) and I used Sony Vegas software for capture. I have also have some m2t files from a Canon HDV (HV30) with the same problem (missing codec in PE 15)

I have tested a bit more and it appears that it is just the organizer that will not play the clips. They will actually open in premiere elements. Since I have a lot of clips, the organizer is a very helpful feature. Hope I will get it working right. Now it will not let me view the files and the dates are mixed ut.

If you're on a Mac, you've already got Quicktime and its necessary components.

I'm not sure why the Organizer has trouble with some M2T files. But I've experienced it too, so I'm not sure what to recommend.

Although at least you can edit the video in Premiere Elements, which to me is the real important thing.

A thought occurred last night!

If your video files were captured with Vegas, that is a PC program.  That might be introducing variables from the conversion as well as the capture.

Perhaps a solution would be to use (the free) Handbrake program to "convert" the MT2S files to a more generic MP4.
