Adobe Phone Support asked me to post here and said an Adobe expert would respond.

Video will not playback without stopping about every 2-5 seconds even after rendering

I've cleaned out cache files, uninstalled \ reinstalled, scoured the net, looked at settings, I'm at a loss.  Not functional to in current state, would love some help.

Please no more scouring the web for a solution...(HOURS looking already, Please help!)

Thanks Chris

Do you have Quicktime 7 installed, per the program's system requirements?
QuickTime 7.6 for Windows

When you first add a clip of this video to your timeline, do you see a yellow orange "render" line above it on the timeline? A render line indicates that the program is not able to match it project's settings to your video specs, which can result in poor performance.

I did have QT installed however when I opened the program (which I never do) it seemed to be in a state of loading (see screenshot below)  So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but same thing, this could be normal.

Next I opened PE and added the sample media file in and did not get any orange (see screen shot below)

Everything looks fine in your screen capture. The project has properly set up and the video looks fine.

You have an adequately powered computer, so there's certainly not a performance issue.

Just to be clear: Are you saying that the playback stops and starts every 2-5 seconds or are you saying that it plays for a second or two and then stops completely? There's a huge difference.

If it stops and starts and stops and starts, I don't know what's going on. And that's what I thought you were describing.

But if it plays a second or so and then stops, you have a background process or program interrupting. Possibly an antivirus program or possibly even some malware.

It Stops until I hit play again.  I guessed the first time at runtime with the 2-5 seconds.  Just opened it to see what actual times were.  Looks like it is sub 1 second to just over a second with 2 seconds of playtime being about the max consistently.

I do not run any third part AntiVirus Software.  Its a clean machine with windows security.  I downloaded MalwareBytes to make sure there were not any unknown additional threats.  (See Screen Shots Below of both MWB scan and Windows Scan) Both Clean.

Open the Task Manager and watch it as you play timeline.

Do you see a program or background process grabbing any CPU?

I don't know what to tell you. My task manager shows nothing else running but Premiere Elements.

When you played your timeline, did you note which process suddenly took your CPU?

You have plenty of power. Your project is properly set up. Your timeline should play effortlessly.

But since your timeline is stopping playback, that means some other program or process is briefly dominating your computer. I don't know any other way to identify which program or process that is.

Though that HP Touchpoint Analytics process would be a likely candidate. Particularly considering that I found this:

and this:

HP stealthily installs spyware called HP Touchpoint Analytics Client | Computerworld

Processes that are jumping around are System, Task Manager, Adobe Elements and Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation.

None of which can be killed and must be running.  It may be possible the Audio is an issue as I did see another post where a person toggled audio settings in Premiere CC to avoid stopping the playback stop issue, however those options are not available in Elements.

Extreme Bummer we cant find the solution as I've been a regular user of Elements many versions over and have spent countless hours including 4 reinstalls, settings changes, setup modes, isolating my machine from network, uninstalling other software etc.  I guess if we dont have other ideas, I must move on to look for another product at this point in order to "get back to work".  I would buy a newer version if it fixed it but it clearly looks like issue like this continue to plague Adobe.

Thanks for your help Steve! if you come up with other ideas, please post, maybe it will help someone else out as this issue is all over the net.

Best,

Chris

Have you not tried uninstalling that awful HP Touchpoint software? It may make all the difference.

Yes, Immediately after you pointed out, unfortunately no change.  I'm still holding out hope something will come up that I can tweak, remove, or adjust to get her back up and going.

I have the same problem with my system. If I do any edits on the video and do a playback the video will run for about 2-3 seconds and stops. Then I hit play again and it might go for a few seconds and then stops. If I do not edit anything it will play the video just fine. I loaded up Davinci Resolve did the same edit and had no problems what so ever.

I made sure that there were no unnecessary things running on my system.

The Adobe Premiere looks like it would be a nice program if it did not have this hickup.

Please read the thread you tagged onto.

If the program plays a few seconds and then stops, you have a background process, another program or a virus interrupting Premiere Elements.

I went through and disabled or killed any background programs and get the same result. Even looking at my CPU usage is only at 30-40% and RAM at max 50%.

Even with Davinci Resolve loaded and not killing any background process or antivirus programs it runs just fine. And Davinci Resolve is a power hungry program.

Hope some kind of fix or idea comes to mind. The program seems to be good otherwise. Just is strange that loading a video the playback is fine until any kind of edit is done to it and then it has problems.
