It sounds like you may be on a Mac. (The rotating rainbow ball indicates that your computer is working on an issue.) But you have given us way too little information for us to be able to help you.

Which version of the program are you using on what operating system?

Which processor do you have and how much RAM?

What model of camera or camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it?

Which version of Premiere Elements are you using?

Open a video clip from that Sony in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy that report and paste it to this forum. The specs of that video may be part of the problem.

abiodunk,

You wrote you are on a RX100iv and shooting Raw + Jpeg.  Nowhere did you mention video clips from that camera.   Are you working with photographs or video?   Are you making a slideshow?

Hi abiodunk,

Thanks for sharing all the details. If an application is freezing while editing it is important to know if any specific process is making it happen. The specifications are good enough. In addition to the details asked by @Bill and @Steve Grisetti, I'd like to know a few more things:

  • Have you tested the issue with any other media file or project?
  • Does the application freeze while performing some specific action?

Also, check if the computer is getting overheated. It can also cause performance glitches.

Thanks,

Shivangi
