Premiere elements 18 - no sound when playing videos

I downloaded the trial version of Premiere Elements 18 with a view to try then buy. I have found that many clips do not play their  included sound. I have tried every fix that I can find on your site but none work. I am using Windows 10.

I am disappointed as I have used Premiere Elements before (previous version on a different computer) with no problem. I would like to purchase the program but not if it does not work on my PC.

Thank you

This is a user forum.  Not Adobe.

What is the source of the clips that don't play?

Thank you for your quick reply.

All the videos with issues were imported from a Sony Handycam dcr-sr68.

Videos imported as mpg files do not have sound. All videos imported more recently are automatically saved as mpg files.

Some videos previously imported from the same camera, (and some from other sources) but which were not saved as mpg files, do have sound. Some of these are mwv files, some are mov files and some are mp4. There may be other types.

All the videos have sound when played by other programs.

Thank you.

This is a very old (8-10 years), discontinued camcorder, Joan. It doesn't even shoot high-def video. It shoots 720x480 MPEG video, so support for this camcorder by any current video editing software will be limited.

If you go to the Edit menu, what is listed on the General page under Project Settings?

It also records audio in Dolby Digital, a format that is not supported by version 2018 of Premiere Elements. However, if you have Windows 10, the operating system should still offer the necessary audio support. What operating system are you using?)

I am using Windows 10 which plays the audio of the videos when I am using other programs.

The country setting is Australia

Try changing the settings in Preferences.  Whatever it is, make it something else.

I have now tried about 8 different settings. It makes no difference.

Thank you

Sorry I was changing the project settings. There are no other options in the audio settings, so I cannot change that.

When you first added the video from this video to your timeline, did you see a yellow orange 'render' line above the video?

This is an indication that your project settings are not matching your video specs.

I don't know what is going on. Based on everything you've told us, there is no reason you should be having these problems.

OK Thank you for trying.

Is there any way I can contact Adobe itself?
