Premiere Elements keeps crashing after adding/working audio

I'm having serious issues with PE 2018 (actually on a friend's PC which I installed for him). Everything works fine until I add an mp3 (tried many different ones, longer, shorter). When I apply a couple of simple changes after that (i.e. cutting out a scene, changing volume, adding transition effect), PE freezes.

Crash files are generated after each crash. They look like this (I only post first 20 or so lines, files are actually larger than 100 Kb):

Process:                PremiereElementsEditor.exe [11632]

Path:                   C:\Program Files\Adobe Premiere\Adobe Premiere Elements 2018\PremiereElementsEditor.exe

Product Version:        16.0.0.0

File Version:           16.0.0.0

Code Type:              x64

Parent Process:         explorer.exe [7356]

OS Version:             10.0.16299.15

Report ID:              26518d58-ce1f-4a57-9f5b-7ac559bc73a0

Time Awake Since Boot:  1405 seconds

Crashed thread:         31 [9936] THREAD_PRIORITY_ABOVE_NORMAL

Exception Code:         EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

Exception Parameters:   Access violation reading location 0x00000000fffffffe

Exception Message:      3221225477 De instructie op 0x%p verwijst naar geheugen op 0x%p. Het geheugen kan niet worden %s.

(I'm using dutch version. Exception message in last line says something like: The instruction 0x%p refers to memory at 0x%p. The memory can't be found %s.)

I talked my friend out of Pinnacle Studio cause I was sure Adobe software would work better in terms of performance and stability. This is not what I expected to get.

PC specs: Intel i7-8700K / MSI Z370-A PRO / 2x8Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3000 / MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Aero ITX 3GB / Windows 10 Home 64-bit Dutch.

I can upload one or more full crash files. I hope anybody has a clue.
