Specifying formats during importing of analog (Hi-8) and mini-DV

I am new to Elements.

I wish to import both analog Hi-8 and mini DV and DVCAM into Elements.

What formats may I specify for the imported digital files if importing from Hi-8?

I have not yet purchased or rented an analog to DV converter. Do you have recommendations for one or more such a good quality but affordable converter?

And what will be the default format for the imported mini DV and DVCAM?

Can I also specify in Elements that the DV be imported in a format other than Quicktime and if so which formats?

Thanks for any help you can offer.
