If the waveform is flat, the clip has not sound. If the file plays sound in a media player program like VLC Media Player, then the sound is in a format the program can't read.

If so, open the file in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy that text and paste it to this forum. Once we see what the file is composed of we'll be better able to help you.

It is also important to tell us which version of the program you're using on what operating system.

A year or so ago there were issues with Dolby media.  The solution was to move away from supporting AC-3 audio inside of Adobe applications.  Instead, support must come from the operating system.

What is the source of your video files?  And, what operating system are you using?

Yep, that could be it. But we don't know because the poster still hasn't said which operating system he or she is using.

But the MediaInfo report should tell us a lot. If this is really 6-channel sound, that could definitely be the problem.

It depends on what you mean by background noise.

If you're asking is can the program get rid of traffic or wind so I can better hear the dialog? The answer is no. No audio or video program can do that well. That's why even Hollywood productions shot on location often have to re-record the dialog in a studio.
