CFA files are always invalidated and generated again when audio preview is rendered

I have 3 CFA files totaling 400GB that are constantly regenerated without the original audio file being modified. I need to render audio to show the waveform of my sequence. Regenerating these files takes a lot of time without any obvious reason. Is this normal, or am I missing something?

Thanks

Hi,

cfa files are generated in various workflows. Is my guess correct that this is conforming audio when importing files?

- Which format is your media you are seeing the problem with?

- Which version of PPro are you running?

- Do you use a regular PPro project or Team Project?

Thanks

Hi,

the cfa are generated once at importation time yes.

but, i have a 3 levels nested sequences. the sequence structure is like that "yt short" > "10 traks" > "rush".

for some reasons the waveform is not shown on the "yt stort" sequence, so I render the audio with the menu "Sequence -> Render Audio". Some times it's super quick taking only a few seconds with the progress bar showing me the progress, and some times the dialog box don't show any progress and the cfa file get regenerated. The original audio mov files are never modified or worked on.

- the audio files are mov files with 10 autio tracks compressed with AAC codec.

- version is Premiere Pro beta 24.6.0.001

- it's a regular project and all files are stored localy.

The wavesforms were showing correctly, then I closed Premiere to do a windows update

when I opened the project again, the wavesforms were gone:

the menu "Clip -> Generate Audio Waveform" is doing nothing, so I choose "Sequence -> Render Audio" and the CFA is generated again.

the source files are unmodified since 2023

it took about half an hour to generate the file again, same size as the previous one

and the waveforms are back

Thank you for the details!

Premiere Pro has limited support for rendering waveforms of nested sequences. E.g. as soon as the nested sequences contains a clip with an audio effect or has any keyframes applied, the waveforms of the nested sequence is not displayed anymore.

The workaround you are applying though should be working across restarts of Premiere Pro. We will write a bug on this.

Thank you for reporting!
