when masking and tracking masking, it masks the uncropped video instead of what is there now?

it masks the original uncropped video, and then the tracking doesnt work for that. it worked earlier today though which was weird.

this was when i was trying to add text behind my subject. it worked, but then because original was horizontal then to vertical, it moved around so much i had to add key frame motion tracking stuff.

Mask the original clip horizontal and add text. Then nest in the vertical sequence.
